Happy scrappy news, challenges and shares

Hi all,
Hope you have all had a chance to be creative lately...if not I have two fabulous new challenges to share with you today!

First up...some exciting happy, scrappy news!
I'm happy to announce that I'm back to where I first started with the Scrap the Boys challenge blog!

It was many years ago that I started the Scrap the Boys blog however back then it was more like an inspiration blog to get the mojo flowing for those boy layouts. A few scrappy friends were always saying there wasn't enough inspiration for boy pages and the blog was started.
As my life got busier I had to hand it over which I did to the lovely Susan Longman.
WOW was I blown away with what she did with it...turning into one of the most popular challenge blogs ever!
It is now run by her equally lovely sister, Wendy Smith and is still as popular as ever!
So as you can imagine I am absolutely thrilled to be back at Scrap the Boys alongside some very talented scrappy chicks!

This month's theme is BIG BOYS TOYS. Cool right?
Having 5 sons, a husband and little grandson I have copious amounts of boy photos but for this challenge I couldn't go past our bubba sitting on his Uncle's motor bike at the local bike track.
Don't worry...his daddy was holding him up...I just made him get down low so I couldn't see him in the photo LOL

My second share is this months D-Lish Scraps July Inspiration Board. Gorgeous!

So much inspiration right there.
With this Inspiration Board I decided to challenge myself with a boys layout and not using Kraft as a background which was my instant thought when I first looked at the board.

Our youngest son has a (very unhealthy) love relationship with Coke so for his 16th birthday we had a little party for him that was all Coke themed.
I found this huge Coke bottle at our local party store and filled it up with Cola flavoured cordial.
I'm sure you can imagine his surprise when he came out and saw it!

I have some more very exciting D-Lish Scraps news today!
This weekend we are celebrating and having a 5th Birthday Bonanza!
I can tell you this...you NEED to be there!

Finalist Entry Kaisercraft DT 2014/15

Hi there folks,
I'm back with some more exciting happy, scrappy news!

If you've visited my blog recently you may have noticed my application for the 2014/15 Kaisercraft DT.
Well guess what? I made it through to the second round! I was so excited to receive the email and kept checking my inbox over and over and over...I noticed I had an email in my junk folder and there it was! LOL

Kaisercraft sent the second rounders two, not even released yet, paper collections and they are both absolutely GORGEOUS!
Both totally right up my alley.
We were to create a minimum of 2 layouts, one with each collection. 

The first collection is just so, so pretty. In fact, it's just stunning and definitely on the top of my new favourite list.
I can't tell you the name of it yet but by looking at this layout I'm sure you'll agree that it's just divine:

 

Isn't it beautiful? I just adore it. 

So I decided to make a step card with it as well. I love these cards but had never made one before but this paper collection is just perfect for what I had in mind.

 I'll definitely be using these papers again to create more beautiful things.

The other paper collection I was sent is Christmas themed and again, just gorgeous.

The colours are just beautiful and perfect for my style of Christmas creating.

Such lovely, vintage hues in this range. The photo is of my husband and our first grandchild just after he was born. 

For something a little different I had a play with this collection and a mini canvas and created something a little whimsical:

Something cute to put on my mantelpiece at Xmas time...or perhaps a handmade gift for a loved one.

I also made a Xmas tag but I forgot to take a photo before I packed it in the box ready to send off to Kaisercraft as part of my finished application. Oops!

I was in such a hurry to get my entry packed and sent off in anticipation of being one of the lucky ones chosen for the 2014/15 DT!

I just know I'll be sitting on top of my inbox for the next couple of weeks and I'll be sure to check each and every email including my junk mail!

I have everything crossed, fingers and toes, that my entries wow the judges enough to be selected for the new design team.

Happy Scrappy news and reveal!

Boys, boys, boys

Hey folks,
Hope you are well!
What has been happening in your part of the world?
We have been busy, busy, busy as usual in particular with our boys.

One of our sons does Muay Thai and has been training his butt off for his 3rd fight and fighting for his third win in a row.
This happened on May 17th in Marrickville, NSW.

Although his opponent in this promoters Facebook photo pulled out of the fight due to an injury sustained beforehand, Jye was matched up with another opponent for the night. How cool is the promo photo?

I have to say it was an AWESOME night and he took out the WIN by TKO 80 secs into the first round!
Here are a couple of photos I took:

Was the best night and I'm one very proud Muay Thai mum!

In other news...one of our other boys (child number 3) has just turned 21!
I have no idea where the years are going but they are certainly flying past!
We had dinner for him at our local pub on his actual birthday where he was presented with some awesome gifts including this Dodgers baseball top from his girlfriend:

 

They are both off to the US in two weeks and he was given tickets to a baseball game while over there as well. They are both so excited to be going and have spent the past 12 months saving and planning their trip.

We are having a 21st party for him on Friday night so fingers crossed the weather holds out for us!

Scrapping news....well! If anyone had ever told me scrapbooking could be dangerous I would've thought hmmm...not possible.

That was until Friday night!

Sitting at my desk scrapping away when I dropped a pair of small but very sharp scissors. instead of just letting them drop I went for the catch...unfortunately catching in my hand....palm side up! Although it punctured my hand the cuts weren't deep enough for stitches or anything but my ring finger immediately went numb.

Over the course of the night it swelled and swelled and SWELLED!

So off to the doctor the next morning to find out the cause after a long, painful night of throbbing.

At first he thought there was some nerve damage but x-rays showed that wasn't the case.

It was simply a case of infection so after a tetanus shot and a pack of anti-biotics I was sent home only to have the stupid thing swell even more!

In the end I had to get one of my boys to cut a ring off i've worn on my finger for almost 20 years ;/

Wasn't happy with that but it can be saved...unlike a finger!

So this is the layout I was working on and when I say I put blood, sweat and tears (OK not tears) into this...I really mean it!

I've done this page for this months Scrap The Boys challenge which is to create a GRUNGY/MESSY layout.  Thank goodness for that criteria...made it so much easier to hide the blood spots! LOL

 

This handsome young man is our youngest son, Jack all dolled up and ready for his Yr 10 Formal last year. The kid definitely has some swag...don't ya think?

Weekend Cyber Crop

Good morning lovelies,
We had a long weekend this past one for ANZAC day, a day to reflect, honour and give thanks to our service men and women.
So much to be thankful to them for and so lucky to live in this wonderful and very proud country.

Long weekends will usually see a cyber crop happening somewhere and I was lucky enough to participate in one this weekend, although I only got two challenges done due to having a photo shoot and a BBQ with friends on the Saturday night.

This first page I did was for a 5,4,3,2,1 challenge.
5 large embellishments
4 patterned papers
3 mists or inks
2 word title 1 photo

Here is my entry:

There is lots of dimension in this layout without it being too bulky simply by building up the background with stencils, mists, gesso, machine stitching and washi tapes.
It's amazing that just by using these products how unique and dimensional your page will turn out.

The second challenge I entered was a colour challenge. The colour combo was orange, yellow, black and white.

On first impressions the combo reminded me of a sunny summer day but then I came across this photo of my husband that i just love and decided to go with that.
I used a darker, more burnt orange than a brighter tone.
Lots of machine stitching on this one as well...which I'm loving again at the moment.

Why not break out your sewing machine and try adding texture and dimension to your next project with some machine stitching?
You'll be surprised at just how cool it looks!

Scrapping winner!

Hey everyone :)
Hope this post finds you well and DRY...as it's still raining here!!
We did need it but I wish it would fall where it's needed the most and give some much needed relief to our drought stricken farmers who are doing it really tough at the moment.

Last post I shared this layout I'd created for the March Scrap The Boys challenge and I'm excited to say I won a prize! YAY...LOL

I must admit the Scrap The Boys challenge site has a special place in my heart. Did you know I started that site many moons ago?
It started out as a place just to share layouts of BOYS for inspiration to other scrappers but sadly I couldn't keep it going after returning to work. I handed it over to the very talented Susan Longman who turned it into a challenge site and the rest, as they say, is history. Right now, Susan's sister Wendy is looking after it. Just a little bit of trivia I thought you might be interested in LOL

I also mentioned last post that I was heading off on a Retreat that weekend. The Retreat was organised by Lisa Warren of Inspired Blueprints and was held at The Tops Conference Centre in Stanwell Tops. I've never been to a retreat there but I can tell you it certainly won't be the last!
Such a beautiful place, the staff were great and the food was amazing...all the little things that make up a great weekend away for scrapping with the girls.
As for the girls...I had an absolute blast with not only my retreat partner in crime, Chrissy, but a few others as well. I think I'm to blame yet again for a very late night...or should I say early morning on the Saturday. 5.00 a.m bedtime. Oops ;P

Lisa had arranged a few challenges to be done over the weekend so I entered them to keep the mojo flowing. I ended up getting 4 done (I know right? I need to stop chatting and start scrapping on Retreat!). 2 of those pages I don't consider finished properly yet so I'll get on to them before I share.

This one I did for a challenge at Scrapbook Savvy (owned by the lovely Sar Ward) who was having her own Cyber Crop on the same weekend.
I misread this colour challenge and thought it was pink and blue. Thought I had it in the bag when I re-read...also GREEN! Arrgghhh...this threw me back HOURS as I just couldn't see where or how I was going to put some green. Really, really LOVE how this turned out though.

I did a beach photo shoot back in February of a friends' gorgeous daughters who are dancers and I've been busting to scrap the photos. One down...about a million to go...hehe.

The second page I actually finished wasn't part of a challenge but I bought a couple of new stencils at Retreat and wanted to have a play with them.
They were both really cool, grungy stencils (and let me tell you BOTH got a massive workout over the weekend from everyone).
One was just perfect for this photo of my son and his trainers at his last Muay Thai fight:

Such a cool, grungy boys page.

Right now I'm working on a mini canvas to put in my scrap room. I'm loving texture paste with stencils and Gelatos with gesso at the moment and the way they all seem to blend together.
Beautiful mixed media.

Well I'm off to cook dinner and hopefully have a little play at the scrap desk tonight.

Retreating this weekend!

Hi everyone,
Hope you have all been well in your part of this big, wide world!
Can you believe it's almost April already? How time flies.

Have you been or done anything exciting lately? I went on my very first Ghost Tour with some friends recently and wow...it was amazing! Even the extremely skeptical in the group must have been awestruck at some of the experiences we had. The tour was in a beautiful old house with servants quarters and breathtaking gardens, although you couldn't really see them in the dark. I'll definitely be doing another tour in the near future!

I've been busy in my little craft room making things for my market stall in between photo shoots and daily life so it's been pretty hectic as usual around here.
I just have to share this ballet point shoe I made for market but I love it that much I'm contemplating keeping it for me. I think it would look gorgeous in my craft room :)

 
I'm off on a scrapbooking Retreat this weekend with my retreat partner in crime, Chrissy, and let me tell you...this break couldn't have come at a better time!
It's a Retreat neither of us have been too before and I'm looking really forward to the views I've been told this place has to offer. We are off to Stanwell Tops Conference Centre this time.

Just to get my mojo flowing before Retreat I pulled out my new Faber Castell Gelatos that I've had sitting around for the best part of 8 weeks before I even touched them. I just had to have them before Retreat!
So I got out some cardstock, Gesso and the Gelatos and OMG...I am IN LOVE!!
Gesso and Gelatos are my new best friend! Love the effect it has!
Here's a layout I finished using both on the weekend. I'm entering it in this month's Scrap the Boys Challenge:

I've also had an unfinished layout sitting here since LAST YEAR! Can you believe that?? I just never got around to finishing it so I got stuck into that and now it's off my desk and in a folder. Here it is:

Markets and photos and scrapping....OH MY!

Hey all,
Hope this post finds you all well.
All is good in our little world with hubby still home on holidays until Monday and a house full of kids (well young teens and young adults). Never a dull moment around here that's for sure!

Half way through last year I decided to put all the things I've been hoarding for rainy day projects to good use and start making and upcycling things for a market stall. Between that, family commitments and my photography business...some days I truly didn't even know what day of the week it was. It was head down, bum up for months.
Finally I managed to get a table of stuff ready for my first market stall and I had an absolute ball on the day.
I find repurposing and upcycling things that would normally be thrown away such a great way to expand and learn creatively and there wasn't much around I didn't slap a coat of paint on.
To have people actually buy what I made was an awesome feeling! Knowing that some of the things I'd created were being given as Xmas gifts made every single moment of being yelled at for neglecting everyone in the house well worth it! (Oops...LOL)

Recently Michael and I attended a local garage sale and to my absolute delight I found not one, not two, not three...but FIVE antique sewing machines! I'd been after one for years but I really want one in a proper cabinet so I made the decision to repurpose these ones. *shock...horror*
You have to admit though...this repurposed antique Singer sewing machine into a tractor is pretty cool right?

 So this year I have more markets on the agenda which means making a lot more fun stuff...can't wait!

I also have some great photography packages in the pipeline which is all secret squirrel at the moment and again, time is a factor. Really need to manage my time a bit better...;P

As for creating...I've done 1 layout for the year! Go me!! LOL
I actually started a second but that's about as far as I got with it. Hopefully I can finish it over the weekend.

Did you check out the last Inspired Blueprints sketch? Well you best head back on over as there is a NEW sketch ready to be printed and scrapped! Sketch 117 is now up and running and can I say I had a lot of fun with this one!

I'm loving all the brights in the scrapping world at the moment so I thought I'd give this style a go. Not really being a 'bright colour' scrapper...I'm really happy with how this turned out.

So make sure you give this sketch a go...it's a great one for all styles!

Happy New Year

Hi everyone!
Welcome to 2014!
How did you see in the New Year? Watching the fireworks, partying or, like me, something a little quieter?

My husband and I and a couple of our kids spent Xmas and New Year in the NSW outback on a sheep station one of our sons is working on. To say it was an amazing experience is truly an understatement!
Unfortunately they are in a drought up there at the moment and the 15,000 sheep and cattle are being manually fed at the moment. To see the land like that is really heart breaking however it gives a deep appreciation of our farmers and what they endure season to season.
This property also has wheat crops but due to the drought this year there were none.
Here are a couple of photos of our stay:

  These sheep are following my son in the feeder ute who is dropping food for them as he drives. If you look right back past the dust you'll see just how many sheep there were in this particular paddock. Just amazing!

 This photo shows just how dry the land is at the moment. It is a river that runs through the property and is absolutely bone dry right now. Very sad.

This is me on Xmas day. Out feeding with my son and had the privilege of cuddling this little lamb.

This is my son who, of course, I got heaps of photos of :)

 As you can imagine I took heaps of photos and I'm sure it'll take me 10 years to catch up with scrapping them all! Thank goodness for Project Life!

Speaking of scrapping, I hope you had plenty of time of the Xmas break to fit some in. I've completed one layout so far hehe...
We have some great changes over at Inspired Blueprints this year and of course our AWESOME sketches!

Back from a blogging break!

Well hello there!
It's been such a long while since I blogged...I think my last post was back in March.
I've been so very busy with life that blogging just wasn't on the agenda.
How I've missed it though :)

So much has happened since March...some good, some bad...mostly good though.
I'm planning on doing a 'life post' in the near future but for now I just want to share a few changes I've had on the creative front.

As I was so busy and not getting much time at all to scrap or get anything creative done for that matter...I was finding it all a chore.
So I am no longer on the Scrap FX or Flourish With A Bling design teams.
Both of those companies are AMAZING and fabulous people to work for and I do believe if you're going to be on a DT...you need to commit 100%. I just couldn't do it.

I then went through an awful period of not scrapping at all and can I say...it was just the pits :(

Recently I went on a Retreat and after such a long break I was lucky the mojo just seemed to flow.
It was awesome and really hit home the reason why I started this amazing journey in the first place.
So I made the decision then and there that I would find time to scrap. Find that time to record our memories and create pages for our albums.

Just after that a DT call went out for the awesome sketch blog Inspired Blueprints. So I thought...why not give it a go?
Sketches always get the mojo flowing and even when you're really busy...the bones of the layout are done for you so all you have to do is interpret it the way you want.
This would also ensure I'd get pages done and fit a little creative time in too.
So I applied...and guess what??
I made the DT!! WOOHOO!!
The line up of talent is simply AMAZING so I'm really excited to be creating alongside these wonderful girls.

Scrap FX Blog Hop - FAIL!

Firstly, I must apologise for my lack of absence in the Scrap FX Blog Hop!
Unfortunately I became ill on Wednesday afternoon and spent a couple of days in hospital so missed the start of the Hop :(

Now I want to share what I made for the Scrap FX Blog Hop.
Lately I've been doing a lot of furniture restoration and upcycling of old, vintage findings.
A while back I found this old clock...I've wanted one of these FOREVER!
So I thought what better technique can I do for the hop than sharing an upcycled project using Scrap FX chipboard!

I got this old clock very cheap I thought I'd have a play and turn it into something pretty to sit on our fireplace mantelpiece.
Here's what I started with:

It cost me all of $5-.
To be honest it had me stumped for a while as I wanted to keep the original wood and shape.
So...I simply started by painting it white and once that was dry I gave it quite a heavy sanding to reveal that lovely old wood underneath.

I also wanted to retain the metal circle housing the numbers so I took the original hands off and measured the circle. I then adhered vintage music sheet paper to the centre and layered it with a vintage doily, some die cuts, some gorgeous FWAB pearl flourishes and some pretty flowers. Instead of replacing the original hands I painted and inked the awesome Scrap FX Steampunk Corner Hands that I added white brads too...to continue the metal look.

Once I was happy with the focal point; the face of the clock, I concentrated on either side. I created a cluster of embellishments similar to the face on the left side of the clock, again using die cuts, pearls, flowers and chipboard. In this cluster I've used the elegant Woman Cameo and a bird from the Birdies pack.


I wanted my clock to have a 'family' theme as this is what I already had on my mantelpiece so I came up with a bit of a play on words. I used the beautiful Family stencil layered with another bird from the Birdie pack and the word Time.

 

I just adore the way this old, vintage clock has turned out. It's exactly what I had in mind. Even more, I love the fact that I could showcase some of my favourite Scrap FX chipboard pieces on it.

Sometimes you really need to think outside the box when decorating and upcycling for the home. Who knew you could turn such a plain, boring, vintage clock into a gorgeous Shabby Chic time piece?

Next time you're considering restoring or upcycling a project...why not consider using your scrapbooking supplies on something you never thought you could. I'm sure you'll love it just as much as I love my clock.

Instant Love

Hi all,
I have a layout to share today that is very special to me.
These photos were taken by my son just after my grandson was born.
My first cuddle, my first kiss.
Words cannot express how proud I was and how I instantly fell in love with this tiny little baby boy.

I wanted a fresh but boyish colour scheme to scrap these flowers to represent him being a brand new newborn. The lime green, turquoise and splashes of brown were perfect for teaming with white for the soft, fresh look I was after.

I used Gesso and white ink on all my Scrap FX chipboard pieces and distressed the patterned papers and white cardstock background for added texture. I also used a scallop punch on the leftover white cardstock to tuck under the distressed cardstock border. I love this look.

Everyday life and a DT call

Hi everyone!
Well it's that time of year when the kids are back to school and we're settling into our normal everyday routines. Sounds boring but when you look back on past years you'll notice that it's the everyday things that we treasure most. The simple things.

At the moment I'm at a bit of a crossroads deciding on what I want to do with myself this year. I'm contemplating looking for work outside of my photography business but not too sure what to do right now. I guess it'll come to me eventually though...I just need to get myself out there and put out some feelers.

In the mean time I'm still cleaning up after the school holidays and having everyone home for the past month. I tend to get stuck into projects when everyone is around me and I think I'll find if I look really hard that most of the cleaning up I have to do is mine! ;P

Last month at Scrap FX we had a 'free for all' where we could create projects with whatever we liked. This was great for me as I have so many favourite pieces stashed away that I couldn't decided what to use first! I decided on this gorgeous vintage telephone teamed with a photo of Rhiannon I took during a Pin-Up Girl photoshoot we had a while back. Isn't this little phone just adorable?

I just love it and so glad I've finally used it on a page. I have a bit of a thing with using cute chipboard like this...I tend to hoard it because it's way too nice to use LOL
But...it suited my layout perfectly:

I'm not sure whether it's just that time of year or if I'm subconsciously changing as I get older but I've been doing a fair bit of soul searching these past few weeks. I've always been a bit of a 'quote girl'...I just love quotes. Sometimes they sum up exactly how you're feeling when you can't put it into words yourself. So when I stumbled across this quote I immediately got a canvas out and started painting, stamping and masking and created my very first Mixed Media project.

It's only very simple but I'm really happy with it. I just went with the flow of what transpired from my mind to my hand and it all came together exactly as I'd envisaged it.
The quote is so beautiful yet so powerful:

Speaking of Scrap FX...I have some VERY exciting news to share!
We are having a new DT call for 2013!!

It's such an awesome company to design for and I just couldn't put into words how much I've loved being a part of the 2012 team but AWESOME quickly comes to mind!
So make sure you head over, read the requirements and give it a go...trust me...you won't be sorry!
