Scrap FX Blog Hop - FAIL!

Hi all,
Firstly, I must apologise for my lack of absence in the Scrap FX Blog Hop!

The girls have all gone ahead as planned though and by now I hope you've been hopping around their blogs to check out the amazing techniques and projects they have created.

If not...here is a list of the girls blogs...simply click on the name to take you to their blog.

4. Michelle H
5. Misty
6. Rachelle
7. Scarlett
8. Scrap FX blog

Please be sure to read through the instructions carefully as there is a fabulous Scrap FX prize for those that play along.

Now I want to share what I made for the Scrap FX Blog Hop.
Lately I've been doing a lot of furniture restoration and upcycling of old, vintage findings.
A while back I found this old clock...I've wanted one of these FOREVER!
So I thought what better technique can I do for the hop than sharing an upcycled project using Scrap FX chipboard!

I got this old clock very cheap I thought I'd have a play and turn it into something pretty to sit on our fireplace mantelpiece.
Here's what I started with:

It cost me all of $5-.
To be honest it had me stumped for a while as I wanted to keep the original wood and shape.
So...I simply started by painting it white and once that was dry I gave it quite a heavy sanding to reveal that lovely old wood underneath.

I also wanted to retain the metal circle housing the numbers so I took the original hands off and measured the circle. I then adhered vintage music sheet paper to the centre and layered it with a vintage doily, some die cuts, some gorgeous FWAB pearl flourishes and some pretty flowers. Instead of replacing the original hands I painted and inked the awesome Scrap FX Steampunk Corner Hands that I added white brads too...to continue the metal look.

Once I was happy with the focal point; the face of the clock, I concentrated on either side. I created a cluster of embellishments similar to the face on the left side of the clock, again using die cuts, pearls, flowers and chipboard. In this cluster I've used the elegant Woman Cameo and a bird from the Birdies pack.

I wanted my clock to have a 'family' theme as this is what I already had on my mantelpiece so I came up with a bit of a play on words. I used the beautiful Family stencil layered with another bird from the Birdie pack and the word Time.

I just adore the way this old, vintage clock has turned out. It's exactly what I had in mind. Even more, I love the fact that I could showcase some of my favourite Scrap FX chipboard pieces on it.

Sometimes you really need to think outside the box when decorating and upcycling for the home. Who knew you could turn such a plain, boring, vintage clock into a gorgeous Shabby Chic time piece?

Next time you're considering restoring or upcycling a project...why not consider using your scrapbooking supplies on something you never thought you could. I'm sure you'll love it just as much as I love my clock.

Although my blog post is not 'officially' counted in the Scrap FX Blog Hop this time around, I'd love for you to leave a comment just to let me know you stopped by.
I'll have my own little Scrap FX prize for one lucky commenter.
You have till Tuesday midnight, EST.

Thanks for hopping by,
Sharryn

Time

Hi everyone,
Welcome to our monthly themed blog hop.
If you've made it this far you're doing great and so you don't get lost here's a list of participants:
Chloe
Karen
Kerri
Marcia
Sharryn - YOU ARE HERE
Sonia
Susan
Wendy

This months blog hop topic is:

TIME

Time. Something we never have enough of, have no control over, never stops yet seems to stand still at the worst of times AND is the best gift we can give to anyone.

We always wish we had more time. Some even say they wish there was an extra day in the week. A month of Sundays perhaps?

Time is often taken for granted. We have plenty of time. Unfortunately, some don't. Some will never see another Sunday let alone a month of them.

Time waits for no man. The clock is always ticking. Tick, tock, tick, tock. Why then does it seem to stand still during our worst moments. Hospitals are an example of where time seems to stop. Ironically, hospital rounds are governed strictly by time.

Making time. An impossibility in theory but something we all need to do for ourselves occasionally.

Managing what precious time we have. Learning to make the most of what time we may have for the things we enjoy in life.

The gift of time. It is a very true and wise saying: 'People gain more from your presence, not your presents'.

Time. What an amazing commodity.

Well I hope I've give you something to think about before you head on over to Sonia's blog.

Yellow

Hello there blog hoppers,

WENDY

This months blog hop from our little Blog Hoppers group is themed on the colour YELLOW.
I must say, YELLOW has never been one of my favourite colours and I really struggled with finding YELLOW around my home.
After spending a morning in the garden, where YELLOW was quite abundant, I've developed a love for this cheery, bright colour.

Some people think YELLOW is a cheery, bright colour. A calming colour. The colour of Spring.
I find YELLOW reminds me of newness.

Here's a collage I created of some gorgeous YELLOW in my garden.

I also thought I'd incorporate YELLOW in my photography business for a newborn baby. What a perfect colour for something so new, so fresh and so perfect.

So from this particular theme, I've learnt to love a colour I never really had much time for previously.
The colour YELLOW.

Next blog on the hop is the lovely Wendy ...so off you hop!
Until next time,
Sharryn

Blog Hop - WINTER

ME!!

Blog hops are so much fun and a great way to find new blogs you may not have visited before. I've found quite a few interesting blogs following hops that have definitely become firm favourites.

So a group of us have got together to blog with the theme WINTER in mind.
My post will be about what myself and my family have been up to this particular winter as there have been many changes for us all in the past few weeks.

First of all we've moved. This was one of the biggest changes. Moved further away from where we've lived for years and it's the best move we've ever made.
The house we moved into was built in the 1800's and is just gorgeous! Originally a 2 bedroom cottage...it is now 5 bedrooms as it's been built on to over the years. In fact, we moved in while a room was being built along with an Ensuite! It's always been one of my dreams to live in a house with so much history and character...and I feel very blessed to be able to do so.

So...for the most part of this winter so far, we've been restyling, refurbishing and a lot of upcycling. We've been having a ball redecorating the house. We were lucky to save some old furniture that was left here and I must admit...I've started a love affair with wood since we've moved. The house has an old fireplace and Michael is forever cutting and gathering wood for it. You'll usually find me having a dig through the wood pile to see what I can find. Being predominately a paper crafter, this has really opened up a whole new world to me.
I found this piece that I thought would look cool as a sign so I upcycled it and now it sits in my Laundry:

I've also been playing around with dressing up corners and spaces in the house and making them prettier. I love anything and everything vintage and shabby chic. The front verandah was also re-done before we moved in (and is still yet to be painted). I had a table sitting out the front that I got off my mother in law some time ago so that was another thing to be refurbished. Along with some coffee jars that I upcycled with a few pretty paper doilies, some sticks I painted white and some twine and ribbon I now have a cute little spot out the front where I can sit and read.

We've also visited Berrima again this winter. Berrima is a quaint little town in the NSW Southern Highlands which is cold at any time of year and for some reason we always seem to visit in winter. Brrrrrr.....this day was exceptionally cold and drizzling with rain but still beautiful nevertheless. I NEVER, EVER travel without my camera but for some stupid reason, this day I did. Lucky for me my daughter had hers and got some great shots.
Berrima has lots of little crafts and homewares stores along with plenty of antiques. The pub there is the longest serving licensed pub in Australia and that's where we had lunch...delicious.

A few weeks back I went on a scrapbooking Retreat with some friends and came home to a new member of the family. Meet Duke...a bull arab who is now about 5 and a half months old. He's pretty good for a pup although he does have his moments. Funnily enough he only wrecks things on the decking...like chewing up my pot plants!! Apart from that though he's not too bad and gets on with our Staffy, Max, very good.

I was also blessed to go with my son and his fiance the day they found out what they were having...and it's a BOY!! So another change in the Thomson house this year with our first grandchild. Can't wait!!

So....as far as winter goes...and we still have about 5 weeks to go...we've been very busy. It's been a great busy though. Funnily enough, I'm not normally a winter person or someone who embraces change very well...but right now...I'm loving all the changes...bring it on!!

Thanks so much for dropping by my blog and hopping along with us. I hope you've had as much fun as we have and if you liked this blog...be sure to drop by again as I share some more refurbishing and upcycling.

Without further ado, let me share the rest of the Steampunk Goddess I created to share on our blog hop.
Made with the amazing Scrap FX shadow box that is so easy to put together and work with and the fabulous Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante paper collection.

I just adore the Steampunk style at the moment and love how this turned out.
Lots of fussy cutting, inking and embossing but isn't she just gorgeous?

I also scrapped a layout with some chipboard from the April release.
Using a photo of my son on a huge tractor we stumbled across on holiday I decided to use the large cog as a frame.
I wanted to emboss it and it wouldn't fit through my Cuttlebug so I simply cut it in half, embossed it then put it back together again. Easy peasy!!

I wanted to make the large cog look like the huge tractor wheel so stamped it with Versamark and added black embossing powder for the look of tread marks. Cool huh?

Of course I had to add this cute little tractor to the page:

Some cool Lanky alphabets for the title which I also ran through the Cuttlebug and dry inked:

And then added a Scrap FX tag for my journalling.

I hope you like what I've created for the blog hop as much as I had fun making them.
Now you need to go and visit Yuka and see the awesome projects she has in store for you.
Have fun,
Sharryn
